Data collection protocols for VANETs: a survey

Abstract We live in the era of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), which is an extension Vehicular AdHoc Networks (VANETs). In VANETs, vehicles act as nodes connected with each other and sometimes a public station. Vehicles continuously exchange collect information to provide innovative transportation services; for example, traffic management, navigation, autonomous driving, generation alerts. However, VANETs are extremely challenging data collection, due their high mobility dynamic network topologies that cause frequent link disruptions make path discovery difficult. this survey, various state-of-the-art collection protocols discussed, based on three broad categories, i.e., delay-tolerant, best-effort, real-time protocols. A taxonomy designed essential add precision ease understandability. detailed comparative analysis among provided highlight functionalities features. Protocols evaluated parametric phases. First, investigation six necessary parameters, including delivery drop ratio, efficiency, recovery strategy. Second, 4-D functional framework fit most quick classification model identification, thus eradicating need read extensive literature. last, in-depth categorical mapping performed deep dive better targeted interpretation. addition, some open research challenges ITS discussed gaps. Our work can be employed guide researchers identify technical relevance VANETs.
